What is Labor Day to You?

by bplusw 0 Comments

If you are like most Americans, actual labor is the furthest thing from your mind as you prepare for Labor Day weekend! This celebration marks the unofficial end of summer and is usually packed with outdoor activities!
Labor Day was created as a day of respite and celebration of the American worker, dating back to 1894. Today, over 120 years later we still celebrate by closing businesses and enjoying time away from work.
Our celebrations this weekend will be as varied as the American worker – camping, picnics, festivals and parades, to name just a few. The one thing we all have in common about Labor Day weekend is that time spent with friends and family is always time well spent.
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend doing whatever brings you joy! We hope it is relaxing and safe!

PSA

The Big Black Trucks are out and about this week, helping Hoosiers in Central Indiana get ready for the cold. Tis the season for PSA’s!!
A PSA, or planned service agreement, is a great way to insure that your system is ready for the cold of winter or the heat of summer.  When you purchase a PSA, you receive two precision tune-ups (one air conditioner tune up and one furnace tune up) to help provide a quality, efficient and safe indoor environment year round!  Even if you have a fairly new system, all extended warranties require regular maintenance for the warranty to be valid.
During a routine PSA, we perform the following duties:

  • Clean or replace filters
  • Check and clean inside cooling coil (if accessible)
  • Check primary and secondary drains
  • Add algae tablets to condensate pans
  • Vacuum Blower Housing/Compartment
  • Clean and check condenser coil
  • Lubricate all moving parts where applicable
  • Check and tighten all loose electrical connections
  • Check operating pressures for proper refrigerant charge
  • Monitor voltage and amperage draw on all motors
  • Monitor air conditioning cycle
  • Adjust gas pressure
  • Check and adjust pilot operation
  • Monitor flue draft for safe operation
  • Check and test safety controls
  • Adjust air flow for proper temperature rise
  • Check heat anticipator settings
  • Clean and check thermostat
  • Monitor furnace cycle
  • Check for cracked heat exchanger

Some of the benefits of a Planned Service Agreement with B&W include:

  • A 10% discount on service, including plumbing repairs
  • No overtime charge
  • Priority scheduling
  • 24 hour service

Ms. October

by bplusw 0 Comments

Who is Mr. October? That’s an easy question for baseball fans! (For those who aren’t, there’s always Google!) Mr. October is Reggie Jackson, a famous baseball player who earned this nickname for his incredible efforts during the playoffs in October. The question, “Who is Ms. October?” could be hard for most people to answer, but not for those of us that are fortunate enough to work with her. Her name is Teresa McDonough and she works right here at B&W Plumbing and Heating.

October is an incredibly busy month here at B&W! The weather is turning colder and that means our service department is working non stop!  It means longer hours at a much more hectic pace!   In addition to our normal responsibilities, B&W Plumbing and Heating is committed to helping in many seasonal community events, like the Zombie Run and Monsters on Main in Speedway.  This is where Teresa really brings her “A” game!

The Zombie Run, Saturday, October 17th is an  event  B&W sponsors that benefits the American Cancer Society.  Runners who enjoy a good scare will try to complete a 5k race without being “infected” by zombies. Teresa will be lurking in the shadows, waiting to scare runners to death!   She has been carefully designing her Zombie territory for the ultimate scare!   She has also been planning a “Zombie Strategy” for herself and the rest of the undead, as well as creating a costume to die for!

Speedway’s feature October event will be Monsters on Main, Saturday, October 24th.  There will be trunk or treating, games and B&W’s very own Haunted Big Black Truck.  Teresa puts in countless hours into transforming an ordinary black truck into a truly frightening experience for  local thrill seekers. While the exterior still looks like one of our trucks, the interior rivals the scariest of haunted houses!   Her vision and incredible attention to detail keep people both terrified and excited!  It is due to her efforts that this has become the signature event at Monsters on Main.

We are so thankful to our Ms. October for always going above and beyond expectations.  Come join us at the Zombie Run and Monsters on Main and see for yourself the works of our October MVP – Teresa McDonough – IF YOU DARE!!

The War on Germs

by bplusw 0 Comments

It’s about that time of year again! The time of year when we purchase tissues and Lysol in bulk. The time of year that we head into battle armed with flu shots and vitamin C. It’s almost here – it’s almost flu season!
Stocking up on germ killing supplies is helpful, but there is a way to decrease the spread of germs in your home that doesn’t involve a yellow can and a sore arm. Consider installing touchless faucets and toilets in your kitchen and bathrooms.
Touchless, or hands free faucets use a sensor to dispense water, activated by the motion of your hand. Your family and guests never have to touch anything, so your faucet won’t become the transferring point for cooties.
Likewise, touchless toilets also involve a sensor that is hand activated. Simply wave your hand above the sensor and it flushes, sparing you contact with the millions of germs found on a toilet handle.
In addition to cutting down contact with germs, touchless units use less water, which will cut down your water bill as well.
Many names you can trust, like Kohler and Delta make touchless devices. Kohler even sells a retro fit kit, which can turn your current toilet into a touchless one!
Begin your journey to a healthier home today. Call us at (317) 243-3581 to find out more about installing touchless faucets and toilets in your home.

B&W Plumbing & Heating is Up and Running!

by bplusw 0 Comments

It’s true! B&W Plumbing and Heating is up and running…literally! The B&W office girls ( and a few brave men) have joined the Speedway Running Club! Every Wednesday at 6pm, the Speedway Running Club meets at Daredevil Brewing Company, then heads to the Speedway Trail. Sometimes we push ourselves, but most of the time we mosey down the trail chatting with each other and other people that live and work in Speedway. After the run, many keep the conversation going at Daredevil! It is a great way to exercise and feel like part of the community. And while we’re not breaking any records with our speed, we are breaking the couch potato habit!!
