What can an American Standard AccuClean™ installed by B&W Plumbing and Heating do for you and your home?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

There’s a lot about indoor air quality that you might not know and certainly can’t see. Up to 72 trillion microscopic irritants, or allergens, find their way into your home every day. They include dust, pollen, pet hair and dander, dust mites, mildew, lint, fungus, most tobacco smoke, cooking grease and bacteria. Many of these particles are so small that your nose and throat can’t filter them out, and they can get deep into your lungs.

Actually, studies show that indoor air can be five times more polluted than outdoor air. Exposure to indoor air pollutants has increased in recent years, due to factors like these:

Today’s homes are better insulated and more tightly sealed than ever before, sealing in humidity, smoke, dust and other pollutants.

Use of synthetic building materials and furnishings and household cleaners has increased.

The Environmental Protection Agency ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health.

A whole home air cleaner, like American Standard AccuClean™, works as part of your heating and cooling system. That means it’s designed to clean the air in every room of your home. And the unique patented filtration technology has the highest efficiency of any air cleaner on the market. Get ready for the cleanest, most comfortable indoor air you’ve ever experienced.

Key Benefits:

Removes up to 99.98% of allergens from filtered air

Catches particles even smaller than .1 micron in size

8 times more effective than the best HEPA room appliance

100 times more effective than a standard 1″ throwaway filter or ionic-type room appliance

Delivers cleaner air, and more of it

Reusable filter is easy to vacuum or wash

Nothing cleans your indoor air like the AccuClean Whole Home Air Filtration System. It removes up to an unprecedented 99.98% of unwanted particles and allergens from the filtered air in your home. Standard 1″ throwaway filters and ionic-type room appliances can’t even begin to match that.

We have a Aprilaire model # 550 furnace humidifier and water

is continuosly draining from it even though our furnace isn’t on.  Is there a problem with it?

Ron, Indianapolis, Indiana

Ron,

Thanks for contacting us & your question. Water should be coming out of the humidifier drain when there is a call for humidity in the heating cycle. If water continues to come out of the drain, the solenoid valve may be stuck in the open position or the solenoid valve is getting continuous power not allowing it to close. The humidifier pad should be replaced and the humidifier serviced at the beginning of each heating season. Please e-mail or call me at our office at 243-3581 with any additional questions.

Thank you,

Your HVAC System Needs To Breathe

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Recently, we have gone to several customers’ homes where their HVAC system has failed or quit working and found one thing in common with all of them: They all installed Vent Filters/Fresheners in all of their registers.

We recommend not using these Vent Filters.  Your furnace filter protects your furnace and filters the air circulating through your home.  This does not mean remove your furnace filter.  More than likely, the Heating and Air Conditioning system in your home was not designed for the use of Vent Filters. Using Vent Filters could ‘choke’ your HVAC system.  This will make it difficult for the blower to ‘push’ the air through the system, causing undo stress.

Remember, your Heating and Air Conditioning system needs to breathe.  Change your furnace filters monthly.  If you want increased filtration, we can install a Filter Media Box or an AccuClean Electronic Air Cleaner for your HVAC system.

Is it normal operation for my heat pump to turn on and off

constantly during very cold temeratures (5 degrees above zero)?  My heat pump turned off and on all night last night.

Mark, Indianapolis

Mark,

Thanks for the question. It is not normal for your heatpump to turn off and on, this is called short cycling. If your back-up heat for the heatpump is a gas furnace, your heatpump should not be on at all due to the cold temperatures. If your back-up heat for the heatpump is an electric furnace your heatpump should run continously until the thermostat is satisfied.

Please feel free to call me at 243-3581 or send me other questions you may have.

Thanks,

Dave Mejean

My neice lives in E. Indianapolis. She needs a new furnace.

It is beyond repair.  How much does that usually run?

 thank you, Patty, Indianapolis, Indiana

Patty,

Thanks for contacting us for your heating information. I’m not sure if she has an electric or a gas furnace. There are many sizes and efficiencies of furnaces. We would need some information on the size & age of the home, condition of the windows and insulation & the size of the existing ductwork.

This would be best if we could come out & survey the home. Most furnaces will run from aproximately $2,900.00 to $5,500.00 & we offer financing. All of our furnaces come with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. There are also some gas company rebates & tax credits on qualifying furnaces. Please send me an e-mail or call me at 243-3581 with any questions.

Thanks,
